With being diagnosed with prior DVT /PE at such a young age, I was told that compression stockings would help with the pain during recovery. It was difficult for me to wear them since I live in a warm climate and I couldn't ever seem to make them stay up throughout the day. -Not to mention, the top bands of the stockings created a huge rash every time I wore them. I immediately stopped wearing them soon after I recovered from my DVT /PE.
About a year later, I developed post-thrombotic syndrome in my legs (which mimics another DVT ). I was told that I had PTS and that the edema and pain would be relieved by wearing the compression stockings again. My PTS was really a hindrance on the amount of activities I could do throughout the day. So finally, I bit the bullet and asked my doctor what I could do to help my compression stocking wearing and how to be more comfortable throughout the day. It took me a while, but I finally settled on going the waist-high route in terms of being the most comfortable for me.
